Abstract
Objectives: To review the theoretical basis and methods of injection therapy according to the cause of spinal diseases.

Summary of Literature Review: The symptoms of spinal diseases mainly appear as axial pain and radiating pain. Axial pain is most often caused by intervertebral discs, and radiating pain is often caused by compression on affected nerve roots, mostly due to disc herniation or spinal stenosis.

Materials and Methods: Review of the relevant articles.

Results: The causes of axial pain due to intervertebral discs include mechanical stimulation and chemical inflammatory stimulation, and the causes of radiating pain due to nerve root compression include immunological stimulation, inflammatory stimulation, and ischemic stimulation. Among these, inflammatory and immunological stimulation can be alleviated by the pharmacological action of steroids.
Against this background, pain caused by spinal diseases can be treated with intrathecal nerve root or epidural injections.

Conclusions: In patients with axial pain and radiating pain due to spinal diseases, epidural steroid injection therapy is a useful treatment that can relieve symptoms and avoid surgical treatment.
